The ATF requirements
When you make an NFA firearm on an approved ATF Form 1 (such as an SBR, SBS or suppressor), federal regulations (27 CFR 479.102) require you to engrave identifying information on the frame, receiver or barrel. Your markings must include:
- Maker's name: your full legal name, or the exact name of your trust as it appears on your approved Form 1.
- Location: the city and state where the NFA item was made.
- Size and depth: markings must be engraved to a minimum depth of 0.003 inch, and serial numbers must be at least 1/16 inch tall.
Our fiber laser marking service
Meridian EDC & Laserworks engraves NFA compliance markings with a galvo fiber laser, set to meet or exceed the ATF's 0.003-inch minimum depth and 1/16-inch minimum character height. Unlike rotary engraving, which can chatter or slip, a fiber laser removes material precisely, producing a crisp, high-contrast mark on bare aluminum, steel, anodized and Cerakoted surfaces while keeping the surrounding finish intact.
